"We're in a Speakeasy" proclaim the inhabitants of a Cabaret in Chicago.
Everyone at THE MUSICAL OF MUSICALS (THE MUSICAL!) mourns the passing of our beloved Fred Ebb on September 12th 2004. His brilliant work has enriched and entertained us and will continue to inspire future lyricists for generations to come.

Interviewer: Kander and Ebb shows like CHICAGO and CABARET have your feet tapping and your hips gyrating even as you're witnessing a betrayal of justice or the rise of Nazi Germany. Apart from a little jazz, booze, and sex, what were you going for in your tribute to them?
Eric: Well, for starters, we knew we needed a good setting for all that jazz, booze and sex, so we decided to have the action take place in a Cabaret in Chicago. Although for some reason, they have German accents.
Joanne: I love Kander and Ebb. I could watch CHICAGO every night. As soon as I hear that vamp, I can't help dancing. (She gets up and begins to move in Fosse-esque gyrations. She seems to be hearing the music, although no one else does.)
Eric: (A little embarrassed) Yes, she certainly loves that Fosse style. Look at her go. Heh-heh. Okay, Joanne, come back here and sit down. This is an interview. (She does not respond - lost in her own jazz dance fever.) Sorry. Once she gets started...
Interviewer: (Politely) Oh, uh, that's fine. I can wait. It's such a treat to see a middle-aged woman gyrate her hips. Look at her go. Heh-heh.
Eric: Yeah, look at her go. Heh-heh.
Interviewer: Heh-heh.
(We watched in silence. After several minutes, I motioned to Eric that I was leaving, tapping my watch and shrugging. He seemed relieved and the interview ended there. I tip-toed out. Joanne sure loves to dance!)
